Lo esencial

The avalanche hazard will increase today as sunlight and warming soften the snow surface. As this occurs backcountry users penetrate deeper into the snowpack and it will become more likely to trigger wet slides and slab avalanches on steep terrain. At the high elevations, particularly near wind loaded ridges, this heating may result in cornice failure that may descend far down a slope or cause larger avalanche events. Yesterday afternoon a skier triggered a slide with a three to four foot crown on a South facing slope near Ski Lake in the Teton Pass area.
