Avalanche Activity

Gliding avalanches are possible in isolated cases as before.

On very steep grassy slopes individual gliding avalanches are possible as the day progresses, even medium-sized ones. Steep slopes: There is a danger of falling on the icy crust.

Snowpack Structure

Friday: The weather will be partly cloudy. Sunny slopes: The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust and will soften later than the day before. Shady slopes: The upper section of the snowpack is hard and its surface has a crust. Towards its base, the snowpack is dry. At intermediate altitudes there are 40 to 80 cm of snow, and even more in some localities. Above the tree line snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. On steep sunny slopes at low altitude no snow is lying.

Tendency

Saturday: Especially in the northern half of Aran 5 to 10 cm of snow will fall until the early morning above approximately 2200 m. Slight increase in danger of dry and moist avalanches as a consequence of the precipitation.
