Snowpack

Widespread precipitation fell on Tuesday, this precipitation being heavy on the Main Alpine Ridge and in the south. For a considerable period the snowfall level was between 2800 and 3000 m, and 3200 m in the Bernina region. In the end, little snow fell in Grisons in areas close to the tree line. With the strong southerly wind, large snowdrift accumulations have formed at altitude. In the high Alpine regions, new snow and snowdrifts are lying on a wintry, cohesive snowpack.

During the night there will be widespread precipitation, sometimes heavy. In Grisons this will last until the middle of the day. While precipitation is intense, the snowfall level will be between 2800 and 3000 m. At the very end, it will drop to around 2200 m. The southwesterly wind will blow stormily at the beginning of the night and will transport the new snow significantly. After that, moderate west to northwesterly winds will blow.

Trend

During the night to Friday, some snow will fall in the north above the tree line, with the heaviest falls, of 10 to 20 cm, in the north-east. Friday will be quite sunny in the west and south, while it will remain cloudy in the north-east. On Saturday, it will be quite sunny in the north but very cloudy in the south with a little snowfall above approximately 2200 m.

The avalanche danger is essentially limited to the high Alpine regions and will decrease gradually. There is barely any likelihood of naturally triggered avalanches, but, as before, it will be possible for people to trigger avalanches. Alpine tours require experience in assessing avalanche danger.
