Avalanche Activity

The avalanche prone locations for dry avalanches are to be found in particular in gullies and bowls above approximately 2500 m and on steep shady slopes.

The wind slabs represent the main danger. They can be released in some cases above approximately 2500 m, in particular at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example. Apart from the danger of being buried, restraint should be exercised in view of the danger of avalanches sweeping people along and giving rise to falls. The Avalanche Warning Service currently has only a small amount of information that has been collected in the field, so that the avalanche danger should be investigated especially thoroughly in the relevant locality.

Snowpack Structure

In all regions only a little snow is now lying. Above approximately 2400 m snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. In the last few days individual mostly small avalanches were released.
