Where wind slabs have formed over the past few days, it may still be possible to trigger small to medium-sized avalanches. This problem is most pronounced at higher elevations, where colder temperatures slow down the stabilization process. A little new snow today may also make it harder to see where these wind slabs are located. In general, east-facing leeward slopes have accumulated the most wind-transported snow, but local variations occur.

If the sun breaks through between snow showers, it may weaken the fresh snow and lead to naturally released wet avalanches. This is particularly relevant in steep, sun-exposed terrain.

Avalanche Activity

Der det har lagt seg fokksnøflak de siste dagene, kan det være mulig å løse ut små til middels store skred. Dette skredproblemet er mest fremtredende høyt til fjells, der kaldere temperaturer gjør at stabiliseringen tar lengre tid. Snowpack Structure

Snøbygene siden lørdag har gitt et lag med nysnø i fjellet, samtidig som kraftig vind fra vest har omfordelt den. Denne fokksnøen har lagt seg oppå et eldre snødekke som er preget av mye mildvær og regn høyt til fjells. Før det siste snøfall var snøgrensen cirka 300-400 moh. de fleste steder.

Tendency

Wind slabs from the past days are expected to have stabilised in most locations by now. However caution should be shown at high elevations in the where colder temperatures may slow down the stabilisation process. In these areas, human‑triggered wind slab avalanches may still be possible.

Scattered snow showers will continue tuesday, but precipitation amounts are expected to be too small to form new slabs of significance.
