Avalanche Activity

Fresh and older wind slabs represent the main danger.

The mostly small wind slabs are clearly recognisable. These can at their margins be released by people and reach medium size. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in extremely steep terrain and at transitions into gullies and bowls, this also applies adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas. Additionally avalanches can also be released in near-ground layers. Whumpfing sounds serve as an alarm sign.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of a strong wind from northwesterly directions, wind slabs formed in some localities. The strong wind has transported the fresh and old snow significantly. Faceted weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack at intermediate and high altitudes. In all aspects below approximately 2000 m from a snow sport perspective, in most cases insufficient snow is lying.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will persist. From the afternoon the wind will be strong. In some regions 5 to 10 cm of snow will fall.
