Avalanche Activity

As a consequence of new snow and wind a considerable danger of dry avalanches will be encountered over a wide area. This applies in particular above the tree line.

As a consequence of new snow and a moderate wind, further wind slabs formed. The fresh snow and in particular the sometimes large wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in all aspects and generally above the tree line. This applies in particular on steep slopes, and adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. The avalanches can be released in the new snow and wind slab layers and reach large size. The avalanche prone locations are barely recognisable because of the poor visibility. Careful route selection and spacing between individuals are recommended. Backcountry touring calls for great caution and restraint.

Snowpack Structure

15 to 20 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall until midday above approximately 1200 m. As a consequence of snowfall and the moderate westerly wind, fresh snow drift accumulations formed. Over a wide area new snow and wind slabs are lying on soft layers. Above approximately 1500 m a lot of snow is lying.
