Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Fresh deposits of unstable windslab will be present in wind sheltered locations on South-West through West to North aspects above 900 metres, The greatest instability will be in steep locations such as coire headwalls, gullies and convex shaped terrain. Unstable cornices will overhang these aspects. Between 600 and 900 metres, localised instabilities will be present on steep banks and burn lines. Wind exposed slopes will be firm. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: The strong East-South-Easterly airflow will continue through the period, increasing to very strong for a time during early morning. This will bring continuous outbreaks of snow, with sleet and snow initially 200m and above. The freezing level will gradually rise to around 600 metres by the end of the day. Observed Weather Influences: Very strong Easterly winds with snow falling to around 350 metres, heaviest snowfall overnight becoming more showery through the day. The freezing level continued to slowly drop overnight settling at around 450 metres during the day. ObservedSnowStability: Fresh deposits of unstable windslab are developing in wind sheltered locations, mainly on South-West through West to North aspects above 900 meters. Large cornices are present above these aspects. Below 900 metres and above 500 metres localised deposits of windslab are continuing to slowly consolidate and stability is generally good. Wind exposed slopes are firm and icy. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
