Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Unstable windslab will continue to develop and become more widespread through the night. Some gradual consolidation in the warmer daytime temperatures. Steep North-East to South-East aspects above 750 metres will be most affected with more localised deposits on North and South aspects and at lower elevations. Fragile cornices above all these aspects. Wet snow instabilities also possible where slopes are exposed to the strong sun. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Showers through the evening becoming dry overnight and through the day. The freezing level will be around 600 metres overnight rising gradually to around 1600 metres by the end of the afternoon. Strong West-South-Westerly winds overnight becoming moderate Southerly around dawn and increasing and becoming South-South-Easterly during the day. Observed Weather Influences: Heavy overnight snow followed by heavy showers through the day. The freezing level was around 500 metres with precipitation snow above around 300 metres. Winds were strong, West-South-Westerly for most of the day. ObservedSnowStability: Fresh unstable windslab developed overnight and became deeper and more widespread through the day. Steep North-East to South-East aspects above around 750 metres are most affected, with more localised deposits on North and South aspects and at lower elevations.
