Avalanche Activity

New snow and wind slabs represent the main danger.

The new snow and wind slabs of the last two days can be released easily or naturally in all aspects. The sometimes deep wind slabs are to be evaluated with care and prudence in particular on steep north, east and south facing slopes and generally at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions. Sometimes avalanches are medium-sized. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls in all aspects above approximately 1500 m. These places are prevalent and are barely recognisable because of the poor visibility.

Snowpack Structure

5 to 10 cm of snow has fallen. Saturday: Over a wide area 30 to 40 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall until the evening above approximately 1200 m. The wind will be moderate to strong adjacent to ridgelines. The northwesterly wind will transport the new snow significantly. The new snow and wind slabs are lying on a crust in particular on shady slopes.

Tendency

Sunday: Gradual increase in danger of dry avalanches as a consequence of new snow and wind.
