Wet loose avalanches are possible on steep sun exposed slopes when the snow surface is wet or moist.

Confidence

Moderate

  • We are uncertain due to a limited number of field observations.

Avalanche Summary

No new avalanches have been reported in this region but observations have been limited.

Snowpack Summary

20 to 40 cm of recent snow sits over a crust/facet layer formed earlier this month. Deeper deposits will be found on north and east aspects and the crust may be on the surface on exposed ridges due to strong southerly wind. The snow surface is expected to become moist on sun exposed slopes during the day.

The mid to lower snowpack is generally well settled and strong. Snowpack depth ranges from 100 to 250 cm at treeline elevations.

Terrain and Travel Advice

  • Avalanche activity is unlikely when a thick melt-freeze crust is present on the snow surface.
  • Be careful with wind-loaded pockets, especially near ridge crests and rollovers.
  • Be alert to conditions that change with aspect and elevation.
  • Loose avalanches may start small, but they can grow and push you into dangerous terrain.
