Lo esencial

The snowpack is mostly stable. In isolated areas at the mid and upper elevations, a slight chance may remain for large triggers to release hard slab avalanches on a persistent weak layer. Avalanches are unlikely at the lower elevations.

In isolated areas above 7,500 feet, hard slabs lie upon faceted snow and hard crusts that formed in January. Limited potential may persist for large triggers, such as snowmobiles or cornice drops, to cause a hard slab avalanche up to two feet deep in steep, avalanche-prone terrain.

Avalanche Discussion

An approaching system is to bring periods of light snow to the mountains Thursday night. On Friday, stronger periods of snowfall are expected during the late morning to early afternoon. Temperatures are to be cooler with mountain temperatures reaching the mid twenties. West winds are to have ten to twenty mile per hour averages. The general avalanche hazard will be Low. Avalanche activity is unlikely except for in a few isolated areas, particularly in steep shaded terrain, where a slight chance persists to trigger old hard slabs. No hazard is expected with the new snow until significant accumulations occur.
