Avalanche Summary

The most dangerous slopes face northwest through north to east near and above treeline. Here, you can trigger a very destructive and likely unsurvivable avalanche. You might be able to travel on a slope a dozen or more times before triggering it, so don't think tracks on a slope mean it is safe. This is not the typical deeply buried weak layer you might expect in March, and your usual techniques might not be reliable to avoid triggering an avalanche. The easiest way to avoid being caught in a dangerous avalanche is to avoid traveling on or under steep avalanche paths that face these directions. South-facing slopes offer safer travel options, but watch out for small loose avalanches when the snow gets wet in the afternoon.
