Lo esencial

Triggering avalanches will be possible at all elevations and all aspects on Friday. Avalanches have the potential to be large. Slopes that accumulate wind blown snow will be more sensitive to triggering. Steep, convex, and unsupported terrain are the place you are more likely to trigger an avalanche. You can minimize your exposure to avalanches by staying in terrain that is less than 30 degrees steep.

On Thursday, I found a midstorm instability down 25 - 30 cm. Hand sheer tests were releasing easily on this layer (east and southeast aspect near treeline/above treeline). I also got one collapse in the recent storm snow when I was stomping on a convex roll.  Keep storm slabs on the radar for Friday. Be cautious in steep terrain, especially on the big convex rolls. Hedge your bets by sticking to more planar or low angle terrain. As always, remember cracking, collapsing, and recent avalanches are good indicators of unstable snow. If you see these signs, moving to more conservative terrain is a good choice. This problem will become more stubborn with time and as the snow settles.

Dry loose avalanches are also possible.

Avalanche Discussion

The wind slab did not materialize on thursday. There was hardly any wind moving and I did not observe any blowing snow. Don't rule out the wind affect on Friday. The surface snow is very light and it will not take much wind to move it around. Any slopes that accumulate wind blown snow will have the chance to have slabs that are more reactive to triggering.
