Avalanche Activity

Moist and wet avalanches are still possible. In addition the clearly visible wind slabs should be taken into account.

From starting zones where no previous releases have taken place on rocky sunny slopes moist avalanches can as before reach fairly large size, caution is to be exercised in particular on very steep slopes below approximately 2600 m, and at the base of rock walls. In the last few days clearly visible wind slabs formed in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls as well as in high Alpine regions. These can be released by a single winter sport participant in particular on north to east to southeast facing aspects above approximately 2500 m. Caution is to be exercised at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack. The hard wind slabs are to be bypassed in very steep terrain.

Snowpack Structure

The conditions are wintry at high altitude. In some cases the wind slabs have bonded still only poorly with each other and the old snowpack. Individual weak layers exist in the snowpack on wind-loaded slopes. Low and intermediate altitudes and very steep sunny slopes: The conditions are spring-like. The high temperatures gave rise to moistening of the snowpack below approximately 2500 m. Naturally triggered avalanches and field observations indicate poor snowpack stability on very steep sunny slopes.

Tendency

The weather will be mild. The meteorological conditions will foster a gradual strengthening of the near-surface layers.
