Avalanche Activity

Wind slabs represent the main danger.

In some localities light snowfall to above 1000 m. In some cases the wind slabs have bonded still only poorly with the old snowpack. The fresh snow of the last few days as well as the sometimes deep wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in isolated cases. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain and at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area 15 to 25 cm of snow has fallen above approximately 1500 m. The new snow can be released naturally in particular on steep shady slopes above approximately 2200 m. Over a wide area new snow and wind slabs are lying on the smooth surface of an old snowpack. In particular at elevated altitudes snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.
