The more recent wind slabs can be released in isolated cases, but mostly only by large additional loads,. Some new snow at low altitude.

The wind slabs are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in the high Alpine regions. Wind slabs are easy to recognise.

Snowpack Structure

The wind will transport only a little snow. The wind slabs will form in particular adjacent to ridgelines and generally at high altitudes. Fresh and somewhat older wind slabs are shallow.
