Avalanche Activity

Since Wednesday the weather has been mild. The snowpack will be quite stable.

During the night the weather was clear. These conditions caused a gradual strengthening of the snowpack. Faceted weak layers exist deeper in the old snowpack in particular on shady slopes. As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation more moist snow slides are possible. This applies in particular on steep sunny slopes in particular below approximately 2800 m, as well as in steep rocky terrain.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of highly fluctuating temperatures and solar radiation the snowpack consolidated during the last few days. Isolated avalanche prone weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack especially on very steep shady slopes. Only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year. Also at intermediate and high altitudes from a snow sport perspective, in most cases insufficient snow is lying.
