Recent snowfall and easterly winds have loaded slopes in unusual places. In steeper terrain, you can trigger an avalanche where stiffer slabs have formed below ridges or along the sides of cross-loaded gullies. Lower-angle, wind-sheltered areas are safer options.
Watch for snow surfaces on southerly slopes to become wet and unstable as the sun pops out and rapidly warms slopes. Pinwheels and rollerballs are early warning signs for larger wet avalanches.
