Skiers and riders have the potential to trigger dense to hard slabs that lie on persistent weak layers in very steep terrain at elevations above 7500 feet. Avalanches at lower elevations are not expected today.

    Slabs that were formed by earlier snow and winds lie upon weak interfaces of faceted snow over buried hard snow surfaces and in isolated north facing terrain weak snow near the ground. These slabs could be released by the weight of a single person with depths to three feet. Thoughtful decision making is key as most terrain will show stability however these slabs still lurk in the mountains, particularly in very steep cliff areas. These slabs may become more sensitive this afternoon if significant warming occurs.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies are expected through Friday. High temperatures are to reach the mid to upper twenties at all elevations. Winds are to be from the west to northwest with averages below fifteen miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be Moderate above 7500 feet. Dense to hard slabs could be triggered with depths to three feet that lie upon a mixture of old crusts and faceted snow. These slabs will be most susceptible to failure in very steep terrain, particularly above and just below cliffs. Avalanches below 7500 feet are not expected.
