Steep, shady slopes on the northern half of the compass are the most likely places to trigger an avalanche. Weak snow layers are preserved underneath a dense slab and could release if you find a shallow trigger point. Common places to avoid are rocky areas, the margins of a slope where the slab is thinnest, and steep rollovers. To help reduce your risk, stick to lower-angle slopes where avalanches are not a threat.
