Salt River and Wyoming Ranges

The General Avalanche Hazard is LOW in the northern and central portions of the Wyoming Range and MODERATE in the southern and eastern portions of the range where greater depths of new snow fell. New soft surface slabs up to two feet in depth in the south and east and isolated pockets of slab up to one foot in depth in the central and northern portions of the range were formed by strong east to southeast winds. These surface slabs lie upon slick old snow surfaces and weak faceted snow and are likely to be easily triggered by backcountry users who venture onto steep wind loaded slopes with significant accumulations of new snow.

FOR THE TOGWOTEE PASS / CONTINENTAL DIVIDE AND GREYS RIVER / SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREAS:The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW in the western and northern portions of these areas. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE in the eastern and southern portions of these areas where new snow and strong east winds are forming new soft surface slabs on slick old snow surfaces. Caution is advised on and beneath steep slopes with deep accumulations of new snow. Backcountry users are advised to consult area specific forecasts issued every morning as new information may become available and unexpected weather can change conditions.
