Westerly winds are building thick drifts of snow below ridgetop. This is where you are most likely to trigger an avalanche. Steer around slabs of cohesive, generally harder, drifted snow, especially in steep and rocky north through east-facing slopes. You can find safer conditions in sheltered areas where the snow is unconsolidated.
