Lo esencial

The general avalanche hazard is LOW this morning and could rise to MODERATE in the afternoon. Conditions that warm the snowpack, such as morning sunshine or afternoon rain, will weaken it and raise the hazard, increasing the likelihood for backcountry travelers to trigger slabs up to 3 feet deep on steep, avalanche prone slopes. Larger triggers, such as snowmobiles, are more likely release these slabs. In valleys, shallow wet slides will become possible as the day warms and will become more likely if sustained rain occurs.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Dry conditions are expected into Tuesday before the next short wave brings precipitation to the area late in the day. Overnight lows in the mountains will be in the mid 20s before rising into the mid to upper 30s in the afternoon. Valley highs will be in the 40s, and rain is likely at the lower elevations. Southwesterly ridgetop winds will range from 25 to 35 miles per hour.In the Teton and Greys River areas, the general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW Tuesday morning. Conditions that warm the snowpack, such as morning sunshine or afternoon valley rain, will weaken it and raise the hazard to MODERATE, increasing the likelihood for backcountry travelers to trigger slabs up to 3 feet deep on steep, avalanche prone slopes. While similar to the other areas, the Togwotee Pass region has a shallower and weaker snowpack, and the general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE. Backcountry travelers could trigger isolated areas of slab up to three feet deep in steep, avalanche terrain. Any extended periods of sunshine will make these slabs more easily triggered on sunlit slopes.
