Lo esencial
The snowpack at the mid and upper elevations is presently stable and avalanches are unlikely. Recent cold temperatures have stepped up the widespread development of faceted snow comprised of surface hoar, depth hoar and near surface faceted crystals. Hard layers consisting of melt-freeze crusts and suncrusts will be the bed surfaces of the future. The faceted snow upon these hard old snow surfaces and the ground will be the weak layers that will fail during the next storm. The lower elevations are devoid of snow.
