Avalanche Summary

Wet avalanches are likely on Friday, especially at upper elevations where the snow stayed dry. These avalanches will be easy to trigger, and some may release naturally in steep terrain. With up to two feet of snow in places, avoid steep slopes where the recent snow feels moist or slides easily on crusts below. End your day early to reduce your risk.

West and northwest winds were drifting the new snow where it stayed cold on Thursday. Watch for wind-loaded slopes, especially on easterly aspects in the alpine. Look for and avoid pillows of snow at the top of couloirs or below ridges.

Slides that start in dry snow often entrain wet snow lower down as they slide, making them more difficult to escape. Think carefully about the consequences of getting caught before you commit to a slope, especially if you're traveling above exposure or in extreme terrain.
