Lo esencial

On Monday it will be possible to trigger Wet Loose avalanches on steep sunny slopes.  The likelihood of Wet Loose avalanches increases throughout the day as the sun melts the surface snow.  If you are traveling on south slopes, make good observations of how saturated the snow is to assess the danger from Wet Loose avalanches.    After all of the rain we received on Saturday night continue to limit your exposure to cornices.

On Sunday the snow was very slushy after the rain we received.  I observed many Wet Loose avalanches that occurred while it was raining.  The end of the rain event, combined with freezing overnight temperatures on Sunday night will improve stability.

High temperatures on Monday are forecast to be in the mid 30's for much of our ski terrain, but the sun is strong at this time of year.  On Monday, field observations of how saturated the surface snow is, will be key in assessing the likelihood of Wet Loose avalanches on sunny slopes.

Cornices were likely weakened by the deluge of rain on Saturday night.  It seems prudent to give them a wide berth for a few days following the rain.
