The avalanche danger is Low this morning and will rise to Moderate at all elevations today. Warm temperatures overnight have minimized the depth of freezing of snow surfaces. Expect wet loose activity to increase in likelihood with rising temperatures as well as light rain falling in the lower elevations. Isolated pockets of old wind slab may be triggered in very steep upper elevation terrain and will require larger triggers. New snow falling in the upper elevations will not be enough to create new instabilities. It will be important to monitor snow surfaces for warming and move off of steep terrain as the snow becomes damp.

    Clear skies allowed for a light refreezing of snow surfaces overnight. However, warm temperatures prevented surfaces from gaining enough strength to last through the day today. Expect mostly shallow wet loose avalanche activity to become more likely as the day progresses. Watch for signs of warming such as roller balls and plan your exit routes in anticipation of difficult travel in the lower elevations later in the day.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Cloud cover has been on the increase this evening ahead of a weak trough of low pressure moving into the area. Overnight lows will dip into the low to mid twenties between 8,000-9,000 feet and rise into the low to mid thirties tomorrow. Precipitation will begin in the early morning hours with rain in the valleys and snow in the mountains. Daytime accumulations will be light, in the 1-3” range. Winds will be out of the southwest overnight and west tomorrow with average speeds in the 15-25 mph range. Cooling temperatures overnight will help to strengthen snow surfaces that loosened in the heat today. New snow amounts tomorrow will not be enough to increase the avalanche danger. The danger will be Low in the majority of terrain. One exception to this will be in very steep upper elevation shaded terrain. In that terrain it will be possible to trigger wind slabs up to a foot in depth. While the likelihood is on the low end of the scale, it is always important to assess the snowpack when entering into steep terrain. The other exception will be in steep lower elevation terrain where rain will weaken the snow surface and make small wet loose avalanches possible.
