At the higher elevations west-northwest winds continue to drift snow onto leeward aspects. Soft slab avalanches could be triggered by skiers and riders in steep, wind loaded avalanche starting zones. Avalanches are unlikely below an elevation of 8,500 feet.

At the higher elevations pockets of wind slab up to two feet in depth could be triggered by skiers on steep avalanche prone slopes. Periods of sunshine may increase the sensitivity of these slabs to human triggers.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )A pulse of moisture in the northwest flow will move into the region. Snowfall will develop by dawn and continue through the day. Accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are possible at the higher elevations. Temperatures will be in the teens and 20s in the mountains and rise into the 30s and 40s in the valleys. Winds will be from the west-northwest at 10 to 20 miles per hour with higher gusts. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE at the higher elevations and LOW at the lower elevations. At the higher elevations pockets of soft slab up to two feet in depth could be triggered by skiers and riders on steep avalanche prone slopes. Avalanches are unlikely at the lower elevations.
