Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Localised wet snow instability on steep North to East aspects above 950m. Wet, weak and collapse prone cornices over some of these locations. Elsewhere the snowpack will be wet or moist but generally well stabilised. Some potential for minor full depth avalanches from very steep snow laden crags. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Wet overnight then showery during the day. Mild at all altitudes throughout. Observed Weather Influences: Strong South West winds. Overnight snowfall but only near summits with rain at lower levels; drier later in the period. Freezing near summits but milder later. ObservedSnowStability: Moist, moderately bonded windslab on steep North to East aspects but only above 1000m and generally near summit level. Limited wet surface snow instability noted around midday on some very steep slopes and gullies on the same aspects but at lower altitudes. Wet, weak cornices present over recent lee slopes. Elsewhere the snowpack is wet or moist but generally well stabilised. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
