Avalanche Activity

The new snow must be evaluated with care and prudence in all aspects.

Over a wide area over a wide area 40 to 70 cm of snow has fallen above approximately 1500 m. The new snow can be released easily or naturally in all aspects. In particular in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation medium-sized dry avalanches are to be expected as the snowfall becomes more intense. The off-piste conditions are dangerous.

Snowpack Structure

The new snow is lying on surface hoar above the tree line. Snow profiles and stability tests have confirmed the unfavourable bonding of the snowpack. Weak layers deep in the old snowpack are difficult to recognise. Towards its base, the snowpack is faceted and weak. Avalanches can be released in deeper layers very easily. Individual gliding avalanches can also be released in the night or in the morning.
