Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Additional weak windslab expected on all steep, sheltered West through North to North-East aspects above 900m. Buried weaknesses will persist on selected North-East and East aspects above 950m. Weak recently formed cornices above many of these places. Much better stability on ridges, and all recently wind scoured slopes and gullies where hard or crusty conditions will be found. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: A trace of snowfall is forecast. Very strong South-East winds easing to strong South-South-Easterly later. Cold overnight though easing a little by late afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: Dry and cold with very strong South-Easterly winds. ObservedSnowStability: Redistribution of snow led to new weak windslab accumulations in wind-sheltered locations, mainly very steep West through North to North-East aspects above 850m. Pockets of unstable snow also persist on selected very sheltered East aspects above 900m. New cornice development noted above some recent steep lee slopes. Good stability on heavily scoured windward aspects where hard and icy conditions prevail. The avalanche hazard is Considerable
