Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Significant deposits of snow will continuously build unstable windslab on West through North to Easterly aspects mostly above 800 metres throughout the forecast period. Here, avalanches are likely. Localised accumulations on same aspects above 500m especially in convex terrain, Coire rims, coire headwalls, gullies and crag aprons affected. Unstable cornices also forming on these aspects. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Winds will be generally South to South-South-Easterly increasing in strength during the day to gale force sometimes storm force. Precipitation falling as heavy snow mostly above 400 metres lessening in during the afternoon as it turns to sleet and snow as the freezing level rapidly rises to well above the summits during the afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: A day of very poor visibility above 650m. Winds strong South-Easterly with drifting at higher elevations. Light precipitation falling as snow above 200m. Freezing level around 400m. ObservedSnowStability: New weakly bonded windslab is building on South-West through West to Northerly aspects above 800m. Some consolidation has taken place on other aspects but instabilities still remain in the deeper windslab on North-East through East to Southerly aspects. Coire rims gully tops and ridge flanks mostly affected. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
