Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Windslab will build rapidly during the forecast period. Areas most affected will be steep wind sheltered locations, on North-East to South-East aspects above 750 metres with more localised deposits on North and South aspects and at lower elevations. Cornices will build above these aspects. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Storm Dave will bring significant snow, heaviest Saturday evening into the night, with showers continuing through the day. Very strong Northerly winds in the evening decreasing slightly and becoming West-South-Westerly during daylight hours. Observed Weather Influences: A mostly dry day with moderate South-Westerly winds. The freezing level rose to around 750 metres before dropping again towards the end of the day. ObservedSnowStability: The older snowpack is well bonded and stable. There is a superficial covering of soft snow on most aspects above around 600 metres. Isolated deposits of windslab on North-East to South-East aspects above around 750 metres are rapidly consolidating. The avalanche hazard is Low.
