Avalanche Activity

The avalanche prone locations are rather rare. Slight increase in danger of dry avalanches as a consequence of new snow and wind.

The fresh snow and very particularly the wind slabs that are being formed by the northeasterly wind can be released in isolated cases above the tree line, especially on very steep slopes adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. In localities where more snow falls danger level 2 (moderate) may be reached in the course of the day. Apart from the danger of being buried, restraint should be exercised in particular in view of the danger of avalanches sweeping people along and giving rise to falls. Weak layers in the old snowpack can be released in very isolated cases.

Snowpack Structure

Towards its base, the snowpack is faceted and weak. In some places new snow and wind slabs are lying on a hard crust. In high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. In all altitude zones from a snow sport perspective, in most cases insufficient snow is lying.

Tendency

Wind and new snow above approximately 1000 m: Adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls the prevalence of the avalanche prone locations will increase.
