  • Persistent weak layers

Avalanche Activity

The snowpack will be quite stable. As a consequence of the new snow there will be only a very slight increase in the avalanche danger.

In particular in the Prealps some new snow at low altitude. This snow is lying on the favourable surface of an old snowpack. The avalanche danger will persist. Weak layers in the old snowpack can be released in very isolated cases by winter sport participants. Avalanches can penetrate down to the ground. The avalanche prone locations are rather rare but are barely recognisable, even to the trained eye. Restraint should be exercised because avalanches can sweep people along and give rise to falls.

Snowpack Structure

In all regions only a little snow is now lying. The new snow is lying on a crust in all aspects above approximately 2500 m. The old snowpack is faceted. Faceted weak layers exist in the old snowpack in particular on shady slopes. This applies in particular above approximately 2200 m.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will persist.
