The avalanche danger is generally LOW today. Hitting hidden rocks and logs is way more of a concern right now compared to triggering an avalanche.

Anticipate a rising avalanche danger this week as the next storm moves through.

As of today, the central Skyline has a total of 2 to 3 feet of snow on the ground. When I was out checking it on Tuesday, I found that it is very low density and unconsolidated with absolutely no base. Travel was very difficult as my skis sank all the way through the snow to the ground. This will change as the snowpack settles and consolidates. For now, traveling around the backcountry involves blindly stumbling through the knee deep snow as you bump into all the hidden treasures of rocks and logs under the snow. Not ideal. I'd wait until venturing out.

The next storm with a mostly southerly flow should start producing snow on the Skyline sometime this evening. We should see periods of snow on Thursday. Currently it looks like the most intense snowfall will be Thursday into Friday. It looks like we should get another foot of snow.
