Avalanche Activity

Outgoing longwave radiation during the night will be barely evident. As the day progresses as a consequence of the precipitation there will be a gradual increase in the danger of moist and wet avalanches to level 3 (considerable).

The deep wind slabs of the last few days remain for the foreseeable future prone to triggering at high altitude, caution is to be exercised in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls on steep slopes. Avalanches can be released in near-surface layers, even by small loads in isolated cases. In addition an appreciable danger of moist and wet avalanches exists.

Snowpack Structure

At high altitudes and in high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. In some cases the various wind slabs have bonded still only poorly with the old snowpack, in particular at high altitude. Individual weak layers exist in the snowpack in shady places that are protected from the wind, especially above approximately 2700 m. As the precipitation becomes more intense at any time medium-sized to large moist and wet avalanches are possible.
