CM for 5/1/22: New snow instabilities, on NE, SE to S aspects above 800m. Low Hazard.

Forecast Snow Stability: New snow instabilities will exist in areas of cold, weak new windslab which will continue to develop on steep East to South aspects above 800 metres. Some cross-loading will also occur in steep, sheltered North-East facing gullies and around coire rims. Any new cornices in these areas will be weak. Good stability in all wind-exposed locations. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Forecast Weather Influences: Further snow showers, heavy at times will die away overnight. It will remain cool with Freezing levels around 200 metres throughout. The strong North-Westerly airflow will moderate by first light. Observed Weather Influences: It has been cooler with new snow at all levels from the frequent light snow showers overnight and during the day. The winds have been strong North-Westerly. ObservedSnowStability: Some instabilities were noted in new soft, cold windslab at around 750 metres on a South-Easterly aspect. Deeper accumulations are now developing predominately on North-East to South-East facing coire rims and steep gully tops above 850 metres. Good stability in most other locations and at lower elevations where the new accumulations lie on bare ground. the old refrozen snowpack remains very patchy. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
