Avalanche Activity

TO for 8/2. Existing snow becoming well bonded and stable. Isolated shallow windslab developing N,NE,E,SE above 700m. Low hazard.

Forecast Snow Stability: The existing snowpack will continue to consolidate becoming well bonded and stable as the freezing level lowers. Isolated deposits of unstable windslab will start to develop on North through East to South-East aspects above 700 metres. These deposits, are expected to be shallow and will be found in steep wind sheltered areas such as gully tops, coire rims and ridge flanks. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Precipitation will turn to snow above 600 metres during the early part of the night, light snow showers will continue throughout the day. The freezing level will lower to around 600 metres. Winds will be strong West-South-Westerly. Observed Weather Influences: Rain showers at all levels, light and occasional in the morning becoming more frequent towards the end of the afternoon. The freezing level rose above the summits. Winds were strong South-Westerly. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack is gradually thawing and consolidating in all locations. However instabilities remain in the deeper accumulations present on steep wind sheltered terrain, on North through East to South aspects above 700 metres. Cornices are prone to collapse. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
