Forecast Snow Stability: Fresh unstable windslab will be deposited throughout the period in wind sheltered areas. Greatest accumulations will be on North through East to South-East aspects above 700 metres. Fragile cornices will build above the same aspects. The old snowpack will be frozen and stable. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Winds will be strong to very strong West-South-Westerly veering Westerly from late morning. The freezing level will gradually rise from about 400 metres to 700 metres. Frequent snow showers are expected throughout the period, above 300 metres during the evening and above around 600 metres during the day. Observed Weather Influences: It was a mainly dry day, with very strong Southerly winds which veered South-Westerly during the afternoon. The freezing level was around the higher summits. ObservedSnowStability: The patchy snowpack is generally well bonded and stable. Greatest accumulations lie on North through East to South-East aspects above 800 metres. The avalanche hazard is Low.
