Avalanche Activity

Dry slab avalanches are the main danger.

The more recent wind slabs are mostly easy to recognise but to be assessed with care and prudence. These have formed in particular in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. The fresh wind slabs can in isolated cases be released, even by a single winter sport participant. They are mostly easy to recognise but to be assessed critically. In the regions exposed to precipitation and on wind-loaded slopes the avalanche danger is a little higher.

Snowpack Structure

The new snow and wind slabs of Sunday are lying on a crust in all aspects. Individual weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular on shady slopes. In all altitude zones only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year.
