Fresh wind slabs at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions.

5 to 10 cm of snow fell on Friday above approximately 1800 m. At high altitudes and in high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Individual weak layers exist in the snowpack on shady slopes. In particular in shady places that are protected from the wind above approximately 2200 m: Towards its surface, the snowpack is soft; its surface consists of loosely bonded snow.

The avalanche danger will persist. Outgoing longwave radiation during the night will be good in some case. As a consequence of warming during the day, the likelihood of wet avalanches during the day being released will increase a little.

The fresh and older wind slabs are to be evaluated with care and prudence in particular in very steep terrain. The more recent wind slabs are mostly small. They can be released in isolated cases. This applies in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas. The wind slabs are clearly recognisable to the trained eye. As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation small and medium-sized wet loose snow avalanches are possible. This applies in particular in steep rocky terrain.
