Avalanche Activity

GC26/1 Dry and settled, snowpack becoming firm and icy at higher levels avalanche hazard low remaining cornices prone to collapse.

Forecast Snow Stability: Snowpack stability will remain generally good in all areas. Cold conditions overnight will firm up slopes at higher levels giving an icy surface on exposed slopes and ridges. Any remaining cornices will be suspect particularly where affected by solar warming. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Settled, dry and cool conditions with sunshine are expected on Thursday. Winds will be strong to gale force North-Westerly overnight then moderate to light variable during the day. The freezing level will be around 1000 metres. Observed Weather Influences: Cooler and brighter conditions than of late affected the area. During the day were winds fresh to strong generally North Westerly with the occasional shower falling as light snow on the higher slopes. The freezing level is around 900 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Cooler conditions are helping the consolidation process of the snowpack and improving generally stability in all areas which is good. The surface of the snow is becoming firmer and icy in places, particularly on exposed slopes above 900 metres. The avalanche hazard is Low.
