Lo esencial

Primary concern in the Blues is still injuring yourself or your equipment getting out of control on the stout rain crust that formed on 1/12.  We will also see increased wind slab development later today, thru Sunday.  If you observe shooting cracks, or see large wind drifted pillows, or dune like formations you're staring at a wind slab.  Give any wind loaded terrain a wide berth, as your chance of arresting on the stout bed surface will be nearly impossible.

As the wind picks up later today, wind slabs will again begin to build.  These will primarily be found above tree line on N facing aspects.  The wind is expected to really pick up on Sunday, which increases the likelihood of finding wind slabs further down slope as the wind carries the snow further.  Even with minimal snow for transport, the wind can move snow 3-5x faster than it falls out of the sky.

Avalanche Discussion

Avalanche danger will begin to rise as the wind picks up.  Fresh wind slabs will be your primary avalanche concern, as well as getting out of control on the old 1/12 rain crust.  The best riding conditions will likely exist in shelter snow catchment zones, on low angle meadows.
