Avalanche Activity

Faceted weak layers exist deep in the old snowpack on shady slopes.

Isolated avalanche prone weak layers exist in the old snowpack on near-ridge shady slopes. Weak layers in the lower part of the snowpack can be released in very isolated cases by people here. The clearly visible wind slabs of last week can be released in isolated cases, but mostly only by large additional loads, on very steep shady slopes at intermediate and high altitudes. This applies in particular at their margins.

Snowpack Structure

The spring-like weather conditions gave rise to rapid settling of the snowpack over a wide area in all aspects below approximately 2500 m. As a consequence of falling temperatures the snowpack consolidated during the last two days. Intermediate and high altitudes: The sometimes storm force wind has transported the fresh and old snow significantly. Individual weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular on shady slopes. In all altitude zones only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year.
