Wind slab
- Above 2,400 m
Wind slabs represent the main danger.
Wind slabs represent the main danger.
Some snow fell during the night in some localities. Since Sunday wind slabs formed in particular in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation as well as at intermediate and high altitudes. These can be released by a single winter sport participant in isolated cases. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain and at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack.
5 to 10 cm of snow fell on Tuesday above approximately 2000 m. In particular at elevated altitudes snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Faceted weak layers exist in the snowpack on wind-loaded slopes.
The avalanche danger will persist.
