Hollow sounding snow, shooting cracks or pillow-like formations are indicators that drifting snow has formed slabs.

Another quarter to an half of an inch of water is forecast to fall overnight which could bring another 4-6” snow to higher elevations tonight and 1-3” through the day tomorrow. Northwest winds will increase overnight and into tomorrow, ultimately reaching 20-25 mph with gusts near 40. Temperatures will rise close to thirty tomorrow afternoon at 9,000’.Avalanche danger will rise to Moderate at the upper and, possibly, the middle elevations, depending on temperatures and snowfall overnight. Forecast precipitation appears to be widely variable again across forecast zones as well as by elevation so be sure to evaluate snow and weather carefully tomorrow. The slow rate of snowfall, relatively light winds, and warm temperatures are likely to limit instability to human triggering. Natural avalanche activity is not expected at this time though variable bed surfaces and snowfall amounts will warrant careful evaluation in the field.
