An Avalanche Warning is in effect and travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended. Up to two feet of light density has fallen in the past 30 hours and another 10 to 20 inches of heavy dense snow will fall by Tuesday morning. This snowfall will be accompanied by strong winds and rising temperatures. Dangerous avalanche conditions exist. Natural avalanche activity is likely. Large destructive avalanches are possible.

    Large destructive avalanches with slabs depths of two to five feet are likely at the mid and upper elevations. At the lower elevations dense slabs one to two feet in depth could be human triggered or release naturally on steep slopes and large destructive avalanches could run full path from the higher elevations into lower elevation run out zones.

Avalanche Discussion

Moderate to heavy snowfall will continue across the area into the early evening hours before the snowfall begins to weaken overnight. Five to seven inches of additional snow accumulation is expected before daybreak. Slowly clearing skies are forecast for Tuesday with diminishing snowfall. Skies are expected to be partly cloudy by evening. Temperatures at 10,500 feet will remain in the 20s overnight and rise into the low 30s during the day. Winds will decrease to around 20 miles per hour overnight.The Avalanche Warning issued by the Bridger-Teton National Forest expired at 5 PM tonight. The general avalanche hazard on Tuesday is expected to be CONSIDERABLE. Surface slabs one to three feet in depth could be human triggered in steep terrain on a variety of aspects.
