Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: During the day there will be some light drifting of lying snow. New accumulations of unstable windslab will develop on West to North aspects above 1000 metres. Areas most affected will be gully tops coire rims and crag aprons. Fragile cornices will begin to develop. Snowpack weaknesses will persist especially on steep North to East aspects above 1000 metres. Instabilities will be more localised on other steep aspects and lower altitudes. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Light South-South-East winds will increase to moderate during the day and back East-South-Easterly. Snowfall is expected by late afternoon. The freezing level will be around 500 metres. Observed Weather Influences: A dry sunny day with fresh West-South-Westerly winds at higher levels. It was freezing at all levels. ObservedSnowStability: Light drifting at higher levels with new accumulations of poorly bonded windslab developing on Northerly to Easterly aspects above 1000 metres. Fragile cornices have developed on some of these aspects. Debris from a triggered avalanche was observed on a steep Northerly aspect at 1050 metres. Elsewhere and at lower altitudes stability is better. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
